Missing Argentinian Submarine, ARA San Juan, found

November 2018

On 17 November 2018, Ocean Infinity, charterer of Swire Seabed’s vessel Seabed Constructor, confirmed to have located the missing Argentinian submarine, ARA San Juan, which went missing on 15 November 2017. The wreckage was found in a ravine at 920 m water depth approximately 600 km east of Comodoro Rivadavia in the Atlantic Ocean. 

During the two-month search effort, five Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) were deployed from Seabed Constructor, the host vessel used for Ocean Infinity’s survey spread. The search team on board also included survey specialists from Swire Seabed and ROV specialists who conducted Point of Interest (POI) surveys using one of Swire Seabed’s deep water Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs). 

Swire Seabed extends their deepest condolences to the families affected by this tragedy and hopes that locating the ARA San Juan will help in providing comfort and closure to the families. Furthermore, we would like thank our project crew on board Seabed Constructor for their dedication and diligence during this extra-ordinary mission.
